Ushuaia - most southerly city in the world!

Rested up for a few days in Puerto Natales after the Christmas trek in Torres Del Paine..then set off on a 12 hour journey with Dirk and Ines to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, the most southerly place in the world and a hell of a long way from anywhere! Crossed over the Straits of Magellan by ferry on the way..watching dolphins play in the water. Ushuaia itself is a small city, surrounded by snowcapped mountains and with incredible views overlooking the Beagle Channel. All the Antarctica cruisers line up at the docks..and in general there is a great buzz around the place.
Our first bit of tourist activity was the must-do boat trip out on the Beagle Channel..a fantastic experience with stop offs at colonies of pengiuns, elephant seals, sea lions and lots and lots of birds!

Next day we visited Tierra del Fuego National Park..yet another beautifully scenic place..did a few SHORT hikes and just enjoyed being in such a unique location!
New Years Eve, before the festivities began we hired a car and drove to see this shipwreck..about 400 km return trip frmo Ushuaia with Ms P behind the wheel..not really in the best of form! Ah it was so far from nowhere it wasn´t even funny. We were happy to get home and put the glad rags on.

A few guanacos watching us as we drove along..
A shipwreck in Tierra del Fuego...

View from our guesthouse by night..overlooking the Antarctica cruisers at the harbour!
Welcome to Ushuaia!
