Torres Del Paine - Xmas!
Link to picture album
Well it was a Christmas with a difference this year to say the least! We were persuaded by Dirk and Ines to spend Christmas in Torres del Paine..so with our rubber arms we thought why not!? Its one of the most beautiful places in South America so it would be one to remember. December 22nd we headed into the park on a 4 day hike called the "W"...laden down with tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment and food for 4 days! Carrying the rucksacks was a bit of a torture, but the scenery in Torres del Paine is spectacular. Glaciers, valleys, snowcapped mountains, lakes...at every corner you are met by something more stunning than the one before. The Torres (in the pics) are the highlight of the park so we were lucky enough to save this for Christmas day and a clear blue sky. Got up to watch the sunrise from our tents, and then off we went for the long hike up to the viewpoint for a very exciting Christmas day lunch of cheese and salami sandwiches!!! Christmas night we got a bus back to Puerto Natales, about 3 hours from the park, but the nearest point of civilisation. Too late to make any calls home which was really disappointing, but nice to sleep in a bed again and have a hot shower! Managed to fit in a decent meal though before heading to bed to rest the weary bones after an unbelievably challenging few days! Well proud of ourselves!
